Dubai: Union Coop participated in the second phase of the Best Hypermarket Award ‘Back to School’ to encourage children to choose healthy food once school begins.
Organised by Dubai Municipality, the initiative seeks to change the culture and educate children that healthy food choices do not necessarily mean they’re not tasty.
During a tour to review the activities held at the Union Coop Umm Suqeim branch, Harib Mohammad Bin Thani, Director of Operations Division at Union Coop, said that the goal of participating in such competitions is to contribute to building a promising, healthy generation for a better tomorrow.
Bin Thani explained that the workshops organised on this occasion help raise awareness among customers about healthy eating habits for children and parents alike.
He also highlighted the importance of nutrition during children’s early years and how to make healthy choices for children, along with many other important subjects.
Noura Al Shamsi, Head of food permits and applied nutrition section at Dubai Municipality, said the campaign aims to make children realise that healthy options are also tasty and easily available.
Activities to mark the occasion included distribution of gifts among children visiting the branch, besides handing out fruits and vegetables to them and the rest of shoppers.
The activities also included providing advice on healthy nutrition with signs pointing to six food groups in different locations within the showroom. A number of suppliers also took part in displaying an assortment of healthy food items to attract children and educate them about healthy eating habits. Children also had the chance to participate in various purposeful entertainment activities.
Congratulation!
