Kala Ghoda, literally black horse, is one of Mumbai’s hippest art districts – a treasure trove of galleries, museums, music shops, eateries and host to the annual Kala Ghoda festival. A long-time staple on the city's dining scene, the Khyber restaurant occupies the corner nook on the area’s tree-lined thoroughfare.
Known for its rich Mughlai cuisine and an opulent decor – complete with oil lanterns, and Urdu couplets and plush tapestries on the walls – Khyber has remained relevant in the city’s ever-changing culinary scene for nearly six decades, popular with locals and tourists alike. Diners have included the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Richard Branson, Paul McCartney, Richard Gere and Demi Moore, as well as members of the royal families of Kuwait and Luxembourg.
Now, owner Sudheer Bahl is bringing the restaurant to Dubai – the first location outside India – on the 15th floor of the newly opened Dukes Dubai on the Palm Jumeirah. The eatery is known for its creamy shorba soups, succulent kebabs, treats from the tandoor, fresh naan-breads and soft-as-air cottage cheese korma. Personal favourites include the tender raan (leg of lamb) and prawn biryani.
Khyber will open its doors in Dubai on July 26.
