With more options than you know what to do with, Dubai’s food delivery service is definitely booming. And by 2018, you will be receiving your takeout from the skies. Literally! Drones will soon be delivering takeout to selected neighbourhoods across the emirate.
Testing will begin with the launch of 5 drones in March of 2018, with the aim of 100 drones by 2020. The neighbourhoods lucky enough to experience this service will be:
Emirates Hills, The Meadows, The Springs, The Greens, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim
UAE based tech company Eniverse Technologies have partnered up with drone company Skycart to create the start-up ‘Space’, short for Space Autonomous Drones. Drone delivery will be 30-40% cheaper and more energy efficient than current delivery methods. This new service aims to deliver your takeout in 30 minutes or less, with customers able to track their orders via a mobile application.
And it doesn’t stop there. Your parcels will also soon be drone delivered! Space is looking to make deals with major delivery services here in the UAE such as Emirates Post, Amazon and UPS. The drones will have the capability of delivering parcels that weigh up to 5kg.
Whilst the UAE currently has strict laws for drone users, Space is committed to making this work and have applied for a specific license. The decision now lies in the hands of Dubai Government. Over the next 6-12 months, they will decide if this dream will become a permanent reality.
Congratulation!
