Dubai Municipality will launch the second phase of its campaign ‘Recover the Value of Your Waste’ at LuLu Hypermarket, Al Barsha, on Thursday. Residents can trade in recyclable waste for coupons to buy food products through the campaign that was launched during Ramadan.
Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie, director of the Waste Management Department, said the second phase of the campaign follows the tremendous response from the public during the first phase, during which two tonnes of household waste were collected.
“This quantity emphasises the public’s positive interaction with the department’s initiatives and the enhanced awareness on maintaining cleanliness of Dubai and its neighbourhoods,” he said in a press release on Wednesday.
After the success of the first phase at the Emirates Cooperative Society in Al Twar 3, the official said, the Waste Management Department decided to formulate an action plan to implement the initiative throughout the year in different areas of the emirate.
The campaign at LuLu will run during the evening — from 5pm to 10pm — until the end of this month.
“Among the strategic objectives to be achieved by the initiative are activation of sustainable environmental development programmes and interaction of all segments of the society with environmental issues and challenges. It is also important to establish a culture of sorting waste from the source and enhancing environmental awareness to divert the bulk of waste from landfills.”
Al Saifaie said with this, the department confirms its pioneering role in environmental awareness and social responsibility to elevate Dubai as the world’s best city in implementing the Integrated Waste Management Strategy.
Congratulation!
