1,300kg of food for 5,000 stray cats

Animal lovers from the Bin Kitty Collective have launched an initiative to feed stray cats in the region.?The 24,000-strong group, which claims to have fostered, treated and provided homes to thousands of cats over the last five years, is now looking at feeding over 5,000 cats with 1,300 kilograms of cat foods provided to them by the food major Nestle.

“This is the second time we are embarking on such an initiative with the help of Nestle. They have provided us with about 1,300 kilograms of Purina dry food and we expect it to last us for quite some time,” said Gaelin Mairi Gray, 48, committee member of the Bin Kitty Collective.

Gray said 3,000 cats were fed the last time round.
“We hope to reach out to 5,000 more in the next few months,” she added.

Gray, who lives in the Arabian Ranches, said the food packages have been stored at her place which will be the point from where volunteers will set out on their mission.

“Our members live in different parts of the UAE, so we can feed cats in almost all residential areas of Dubai, as well as pockets of Sharjah and Ajman,”

She said she usually distributes cat food iwith her family and friends in her neighbourhood every Thursday.

She said apart from food, the health and well-being of the strays are also important. “The dire situation of stray cats in the UAE prompted us to repeat the initiative on a larger scale. Also, this will help us work towards our goal to trap, neuter and return (TNR) any cats that need help,” she said.
