Dubai: Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) is going to reward consumers who spend on needs like food and fuel. A new credit card, called the “Consumer Card”, was launched on Thursday by DIB and the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai.
The card promises to give consumers savings on their daily purchases. Rewards Consumer Card users will get 3 per cent cashback, and Platinum Consumer Card users will get 4 per cent cashback across a number of outlets including supermarkets, and on automobile servicing and Etisalat and Du bills, among others. Card users will be able to receive up to Dh1,000 cashback per month.
The card also offers discounts at over 450 outlets across the country.
“Most of the cards in the market are based on lifestyle spending. This is the only card that rewards you for spending on necessities … the rewards are for the common man,” Sanjay Malhotra, chief of consumer banking at DIB, told Gulf News at the card’s launch event in Dubai.
Consumers will need to have a minimum monthly income of Dh5,000 to be eligible for the card, he said.
“We always receive complaints from consumers about prices, so we thought of coming up with a product that helps them find the solution rather than repeating that they should find alternatives,” said Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, executive director of the commercial compliance and consumer protection sector at DED.
Congratulation!
