Dubai to Unveil World's First Floating Kitchen

Dubai will unveil the world’s very first “floating kitchen” later this month. This concept has been inspired by that of food trucks and will cater to jet skis, boats and yachts.

The project commenced back in May of the previous year and the Aqua Pod took three months to construct fully. This project aims to redefine the concept of food trucks by attempting to bring it to sea. The Aqua Pod will serve marine crafts rather than cars said Ahmad Yousuf, the founder of Aquatic Architects Design Studio and the main consultant and builder of Aqua Pod.

Aqua Pod will begin its operations in Jumeriah and will cover the areas of Al Sufouh and Kite Beach according to Yousuf.

The Aqua Pod is designed in a manner to relocate according to the demands of the consumer. The main areas that will be served will be Al Sufouh Beach, Kite Beach, and the Palm Lagoon one and two.

Explaining how customers would order their food, Yousuf said that two ordering systems have been created.

The first system that was made is named the flag system which will include sending out delivery jet skis from the Aqua Pod directly to the customers giving them the flags. Then on, anyone who wishes to place an order will only have to raise their flag, which will summon the delivery jet ski to go and take the order.

The second method will see the customers stop their boats alongside the Aqua Pod and place their order directly with the cashier. This system will cater to smaller crafts.

Yousuf commented on the service’s cuisine saying that burgers will be the food served as it would be the most convenient food to sell.

With regard the menu, Yousuf revealed that the burgers is the food of choice to consumers, which has inspired the owners to pick them as the main food served by the Aqua Food. The other options on the menu will include pizzas and desserts  and will be further expanded depending on their popularity.

Yousuf also revealed that Aqua Pod was built with the goal of sustainability in mind; it will be operated electrically and will also have a system that will collect garbage from the ocean.
“The Aqua Pod was designed with sustainable mechanisms, the whole pod will be electronically run, this includes an electrical propulsion. The pod also has a built- in system that allows it to collect any trash in the sea.

“So even if someone makes an order from us and then throws that trash into the sea — which is out of our control — the Aqua Pod can take in all that waste into one of its tanks, which is then discharged afterwards,” he added.
